How long does permanent makeup ink last?
This answer depends on the treatment, but none last more than five years. Lip blushing and eyebrow microblading last between two and five years. Each method fades slowly over time, and each requires a follow-up appointment to lengthen the life of the treatment.
Without going to the follow-up appointment, your treatment could appear blotchy, uneven, and will fade much more quickly.
What is the difference between tattoo ink and permanent makeup?
There are two main differences between the two: the type of ink and pigment used, and the depth at which the pigment is deposited.
Tattoos use ink, while makeup uses pigment. Permanent makeup is water-based which also helps it fade naturally over time.
Permanent makeup is only deposited into the first layers of skin, whereas tattoos insert ink deep into many of the skin’s layers. That’s why tattoos stay permanently!

Is permanent makeup a tattoo?
Yes and no! While the methods and purposes between tattoos and permanent makeup are very similar, the major differences we described above make it so they are different treatments altogether.
Can semi-permanent makeup be removed?
Yes! While semi-permanent makeup does fade over time within a few years, it is completely possible to remove it. With methods like saline correction, you can efficiently lighten or remove tattoos of every kind.
Removing tattoos and semi-permanent makeup can be expensive and painful, so it’s important to make sure that you’re confident and set on the procedure you want. You can ask as many questions as you’d like during your consultation, and even up until the moment the artist starts the procedure. You can always say no or stop if you are uncomfortable at any point.
